What Is an Allergic Reaction?

An allergic reaction occurs when the body reacts to a substance such as food, medication, insect stings, or chemicals.

Common Signs and Symptoms

Skin rash or itching
Swelling of lips, face, or eyes
Difficulty breathing
Dizziness or collapse

First Aid Actions

Reassure the casualty and keep them calm
Help them use their prescribed medication if available (e.g. auto-injector)
Monitor breathing closely
