Gathering Information – AMPLE
AMPLE is a structured way of gathering important information during the secondary survey.
It helps first aiders identify medical risks and pass accurate information to emergency services.
AMPLE – What to Ask
Does the casualty have any known allergies?
Is the casualty taking any medication?
Does the casualty have any existing medical conditions?
When did the casualty last eat or drink?
What happened before the incident or illness?
AMPLE Checklist
Use this checklist during the secondary survey to ensure no key information is missed.
A worker feels dizzy and collapses. After completing DRABC and confirming normal breathing,
the first aider gathers AMPLE information, discovering the casualty has diabetes and missed a meal.
This information helps guide appropriate first aid and is passed to emergency services.
Look for medical alert bracelets, medication, or ask colleagues or witnesses.
Continue monitoring and be ready to return to DRABC if their condition changes.
Which part of AMPLE would you prioritise first in your own workplace, and why?
AMPLE is used during the secondary survey to gather relevant information,
support appropriate first aid treatment, and provide accurate details to emergency services.
